Chiefs Tap MANICA, HNTB for $3B Kansas Stadium Project
The Kansas City Chiefs have named a design team and owner’s representative for their planned $3 billion domed stadium in Wyandotte County, Kan., ENR reports. Kansas City-based MANICA will serve as lead design architect, with HNTB’s sports architecture practice as architect of record. CAA ICON, which ran the RFQ, RFP and design competition process, will serve as owner’s representative for the stadium. Separately, Burns & McDonnell was named owner’s representative for the team’s $300 million practice facility and headquarters project planned for Olathe, Kan. The 70,000-seat stadium will feature a translucent ETFE roof designed to maximize crowd noise and visibility for military flyovers, plus a 20,000-space parking lot and a mixed-use development anchoring the site. The project is funded through a public-private partnership using Kansas STAR bonds and the Attracting Professional Sports to Kansas Fund, established in 2025 when Kansas courted the team away from Missouri. Construction is slated for completion by the 2031 NFL season, when the Chiefs’ Arrowhead lease expires.
