Excavation and Embankment

Earthwork scope covering cut (excavation) and fill (embankment) operations on a project site. Subcontractors are often paid on a unit-rate basis per cubic metre of material moved. Accurate quantity tracking is critical for proper invoicing and dispute avoidance.

Related Terms

Nearshore Abandonment

Industry

The decommissioning of wells, pipelines, or infrastructure located in shallow coastal waters. Subcontractors typically handle diving operations, cutting, capping, and seabed remediation work. Regulatory requirements are strict, so current certifications and environmental compliance documentation are essential before mobilising.

Hot Shot

Industry

Expedited delivery service for equipment, parts, or materials to remote job sites. Often used for urgent oilfield deliveries.

Back-To-Back Well Program

Industry

A drilling schedule where wells are spaced consecutively with minimal downtime between completions. For subcontractors, it means sustained mobilisation of crews and equipment across multiple well sites. Expect extended contract durations but also compressed turnaround times between locations.

Compressor Station

Industry

A facility that pressurises natural gas to move it through pipelines. Subcontractors are commonly hired for maintenance, instrumentation, and turnaround work at these sites. They often require site-specific safety orientations and H2S certifications.

Trenchless

Industry

A method of installing or repairing underground pipelines and conduits without open excavation. Techniques include horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and pipe bursting. Subcontractors working trenchless scopes need specialised equipment and certified operators.

Borrow Material

Industry

Soil, gravel, or fill excavated from one location and transported to another for grading or earthwork. Subcontractors may need to source, haul, and place borrow material as part of site prep scopes. Confirm who supplies and pays for it before signing your contract.
