LNG Canada Hits 100th Cargo Shipment from Kitimat, Phase 2 Decision on Deck

According to BOE Report, LNG Canada has shipped its 100th liquefied natural gas cargo from its Kitimat, British Columbia export facility, reaching the milestone less than a year after the project began exports.

A Fast Ramp-Up Puts Canada on the Global LNG Map

The 100th cargo marks a strong operational start for Canada’s largest LNG export project, which LNG Canada described in a LinkedIn post as part of its commitment to safe and responsible operations. According to BOE Report, the project is central to Canada’s goal of becoming one of the world’s top five LNG exporting nations, with direct shipping access to Asian markets giving it a competitive edge over other global suppliers.

Industry watchers are now focused on the next major catalyst: a financial investment decision on Phase 2 of the project, which BOE Report says is expected before the end of 2026. That decision could trigger a new wave of construction and commissioning activity at the Kitimat site and along the pipeline corridor serving it.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Sustained work corridor in northwest BC. The Kitimat facility is operating and ramping up, meaning maintenance, inspection, and turnaround contracts are live needs, not future speculation. Field service companies positioned in the region have near-term opportunity.
  • Phase 2 FID is the trigger to watch. If a positive investment decision comes before year-end, it will likely accelerate procurement for construction subcontractors, pipeline contractors, and industrial services firms. Getting on approved vendor lists now matters.
  • Pipeline and compression demand follows LNG throughput. As export volumes grow, upstream gathering and transmission infrastructure supporting Kitimat will require ongoing maintenance and potentially capacity expansions, creating recurring work for mechanical and pipeline subcontractors in BC’s northwest corridor.
