LNG Terminals and Data Centers Are the Biggest Construction Stories in Texas and the Southeast

According to Engineering News-Record’s latest regional rankings, energy megaprojects and data center construction are dominating Texas and the Southeast at a scale not seen in recent years. Leading the rankings is Venture Global LNG’s $28 billion Calcasieu Pass LNG Export Terminal in Cameron, Louisiana, a project that alone exceeds the combined value of the previous year’s entire top 10. NextDecade’s $9 billion Rio Grande LNG Phase 2 in Brownsville, Texas, ranks second, followed by a $7.5 billion Meta hyperscale data center in Louisiana.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • LNG terminal and pipeline work on this scale drives sustained demand for civil, mechanical, electrical, and piping contractors, with multiyear construction schedules offering long-term backlog opportunities across Texas and Louisiana.
  • Data center projects from Google, Meta, Lancium, and CyrusOne span Texas, Oklahoma, and the Carolinas, creating openings for electrical, low-voltage, concrete, and structural subcontractors across multiple states.
  • The $1.4 billion Tampa Westshore Interchange and the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium redevelopment signal continued strength in transportation and civil work for contractors operating in Florida.
