According to BOE Report, Gran Tierra Energy has signed a contract with Ecopetrol to earn a 49% working interest in the Tisquirama block in Colombia’s Middle Magdalena Valley, directly adjacent to its largest producing field, Acordionero. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and focuses on waterflood expansion, wellbore optimization, and potential horizontal and multilateral drilling, with Gran Tierra citing low recovery factors at the fields as a key upside opportunity.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Waterflood expansion is the first phase, meaning fluid handling, injection well services, and water management contractors working the Acordionero area could see scope increase as operations expand into the adjoining fields.
  • Horizontal and multilateral drilling is explicitly on the table, which opens opportunities for directional drilling companies, completion crews, and wellsite service providers familiar with that well architecture.
  • Gran Tierra plans to run the area as a single operating hub, suggesting consolidated contracts and longer-term service relationships rather than one-off work orders.
