Arrow Exploration Lines Up Horizontal Well and Exploration Drilling After Colombia Discovery

Arrow Exploration is moving toward horizontal drilling at its Mateguafa field in Colombia after the M-11 well confirmed oil-bearing sands in two Carbonera formations, extending the field to the south and unlocking additional development targets.

According to Drilling Contractor, Arrow Exploration is advancing a horizontal drilling program at its Mateguafa field in Colombia after the M-11 well encountered hydrocarbons in two formations and extended the field’s southern boundary.

Field Results Drive Back-to-Back Drilling Program

The Mateguafa 11 well reached a total measured depth of 11,455 ft (9,328 ft TVD) and identified oil-bearing sands in the C7 and C9 Carbonera formations, with 18 ft of net pay in C7 and 30 ft in C9. The zones sit structurally higher than previously drilled Mateguafa Attic wells, confirming southward field extension and supporting further development.

Arrow plans to perforate both zones and bring the C7 interval into production first, with initial output expected within weeks. The company will then spud the M-12Hz horizontal well targeting the C9 formation, with spud targeted by the end of March 2026. After M-12Hz, the rig moves to the Icaco pad to drill the Icaco 1 exploration well, meaning the same drilling spread is expected to stay active across multiple back-to-back programs.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Directional drilling and MWD services are in play for the M-12Hz horizontal well targeting C9. Companies positioned in Colombia with horizontal drilling experience should be tracking Arrow’s procurement activity now.
  • Completion and perforating crews will be needed soon for the M-11 well as Arrow brings both the C7 and C9 intervals online. First production is expected within weeks, making this a near-term opportunity.
  • Rig move and pad construction contractors should note the planned transition from Mateguafa to the Icaco pad. Back-to-back programs with rig relocations typically require civil, logistics, and rigging-up services on a tight timeline.
  • Exploration support services including wellsite geology, fluids management, and testing services will be relevant when the Icaco 1 exploration well spuds following M-12Hz completion.
