Industry Glossary Term

MCF (Thousand Cubic Feet)

Standard unit for measuring natural gas volumes, equal to 1,000 cubic feet. Subcontractors use MCF to interpret production targets, scope work, and align service pricing on gas well projects. Billing rates and throughput bonuses are often tied directly to MCF volumes.

Related Terms

Material Takeoff

Industry

A detailed list of all materials, quantities, and specifications needed to complete a scope of work. Subcontractors use it to prepare accurate bids and avoid costly shortages or overruns in the field.

Utility-Scale Solar

Industry

Large solar power installations, typically 1 MW or greater, built to feed electricity directly into the grid. For subcontractors, these projects involve civil, electrical, and mechanical scopes across remote, fast-paced sites. Crews should expect high headcounts, strict commissioning timelines, and phased work packages.

Marine Construction

Industry

Offshore and nearshore infrastructure work including platform installation, subsea pipelines, and dock or jetty builds. Subcontractors often face strict vessel access requirements and marine safety certifications. Mobilisation costs and weather delays are major contract risk factors.

Cathodic Protection

Industry

A corrosion control method that uses electrical current to protect buried or submerged metal infrastructure like pipelines and tanks. Subcontractors installing or maintaining CP (Cathodic Protection) systems must hold recognised certifications. Inspections and anode replacements are common billable scopes in pipeline integrity contracts.

ISR (In-situ Recovery)

Industry

A mining and extraction method where ore or hydrocarbons are dissolved and pumped to surface without conventional excavation. Subcontractors typically supply specialised drilling, fluid handling, and wellfield construction services. Work scopes are often long-duration with strict environmental monitoring requirements.

Co-Located Power

Industry

On-site power generation placed directly at a worksite, typically using wellhead gas or portable generators. Eliminates reliance on grid connections, which is common on remote oil and gas locations. Subcontractors should confirm power availability and voltage specs before mobilising equipment.
