Alliance Pipeline seeks shippers for 350 mmcf/d expansion in Alberta's Industrial Heartland

Alliance Pipeline is accepting bids until April 20 for up to 350 million cubic feet per day of new natural gas delivery capacity to Alberta’s Industrial Heartland near Fort Saskatchewan, with service expected to start in late 2029. The expansion will create new work opportunities for pipeline construction and compression contractors as Pembina upgrades the Canadian segment of its Alliance system to meet growing industrial demand in the petrochemical hub.

The binding open season targets existing and new shippers looking for firm transport service from northwest Alberta receipt points to the Fort Saskatchewan area. According to BOE Report, the project will primarily involve compression upgrades along the existing pipeline system rather than new pipeline construction, supported by long-term take-or-pay contracts.

Contractors should monitor this development as Pembina will need engineering, construction, and compression services if the open season attracts sufficient shipper commitments and receives regulatory approval. The Alliance system already moves 1.6 billion cubic feet of gas daily from Western Canada to Chicago markets.
