US Rig Count Posts Biggest Weekly Gain in Four Years, Baker Hughes Reports

According to a Reuters report via BOE Report, US energy firms added 10 rigs in the week ending June 26, the largest weekly gain in four years. The total rig count reached 573, its highest point since May 2025, and now sits 26 rigs, or 5%, above the same period last year. Oil rigs led the increase, climbing seven to 440, while gas rigs rose three to 125.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • A 10-rig jump in a single week points to near-term demand growth for drilling support crews, wellsite services, and logistics across active basins like the Permian, Bakken, and Rockies.
  • After three straight years of rig count declines, including roughly 20% in 2023, 5% in 2024, and 7% in 2025, according to Baker Hughes historical data, this rebound suggests operators may be loosening capital discipline, creating a window for service companies to negotiate new contracts.
  • Gas-side growth, driven by data center power demand and LNG export expansion according to the EIA, adds opportunity specifically for gas-focused field service providers in producing regions.
