According to Rigzone, the Department of Energy has granted Cheniere Energy non-FTA export authorization for two additional LNG trains at its Corpus Christi facility in Texas. The Mid-Scale Trains 8 and 9 Project will add 3.28 million metric tons per annum of capacity, with exports permitted until 2050. Cheniere announced a final investment decision last June and issued a full notice to proceed to contractor Bechtel Corp.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Construction opportunities expanding as Bechtel leads the build-out of trains 8 and 9 alongside the ongoing Stage 3 project
  • Long-term work pipeline secured through 2050 export authorization, providing visibility for multi-year service contracts
  • Corpus Christi becoming the second-largest U.S. LNG export hub creates sustained demand for maintenance, logistics, and specialty services in South Texas
