Yokogawa Wins Automation Contract for $13B Commonwealth LNG Project
Yokogawa Corp. of America has been selected as main automation contractor (MAC) for the $13 billion Commonwealth LNG export project in Louisiana, Control Global reports. Technip Energies, the EPC contractor for Commonwealth LNG, awarded the contract, with Yokogawa announcing the news on July 7. Project execution begins immediately, with system deliveries scheduled for 2027 and Phase 1 operations targeted for 2030.
Yokogawaโs scope covers engineering and design services, an integrated control and safety system (ICSS), system integration, and project execution support, including integration of multiple third-party subsystems. The Commonwealth LNG facility, located near Cameron, Louisiana on the Gulf Coast, is planned at roughly 9.5 million tons per annum liquefaction capacity across six liquefaction trains, plus storage and export infrastructure.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- With system deliveries slated for 2027, instrumentation and controls (I&C) subcontractors, along with E&I trades, should position now to bid on integration packages tied to Yokogawaโs ICSS scope as Technip Energies moves the project toward construction.
- The six-train liquefaction design near Cameron, Louisiana points to significant field scope for mechanical, electrical, and piping subcontractors as the project ramps toward its 2030 Phase 1 startup, a multiyear window for staffing and subcontract planning.
- Firms with prior LNG or large-scale energy facility automation experience should reach out to Yokogawa or Technip Energies directly, since the MAC scope explicitly includes integrating multiple third-party subsystems, a likely entry point for specialized controls subcontractors.
