Tamboran Targets Q3 Gas Sales at Beetaloo Basin Pilot Project
Tamboran Resources Corp has wrapped up the largest well stimulation campaign ever conducted in the Beetaloo Basin, Rigzone reports, putting the Shenandoah South Pilot Project on track to start gas sales to the Northern Territory government in the third quarter. The campaign placed 178 stimulation stages across roughly 30,000 feet in the Mid Velkerri B Shale formation, covering the SS3H, SS4H and SS5H wells. Combined with two previously stimulated wells in the Northern Pilot Area, the five wells are expected to produce nearly 40 MMcfd of gas, tying into the Sturt Plateau Compression Facility, which is nearing construction completion with commissioning set to begin soon. The project remains within its AUD 141 million (about $97 million) gross budget, Tamboran said.
Tamboran has also started drilling three more wells, SS-7H, SS-8H and SS-9H, using a Helmerich & Payne rig on the SS1 well pad. Those wells are planned for stimulation in the second half of 2026 and will tie into the compression facility as needed. Tamboran operates the Northern Pilot Area with a 44.38% stake, and the Beetaloo Joint Venture holds all approvals needed to sell gas from the project under a nine-year supply agreement with the Northern Territory.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- Well stimulation and completions crews should note the scale here: 178 stages across three wells in one campaign signals sustained demand for pressure pumping, wireline and zipper-frac crews in the Beetaloo through the rest of 2026 as SS-7H, SS-8H and SS-9H move toward stimulation.
- Commissioning of the Sturt Plateau Compression Facility is starting imminently, which opens near-term work for instrumentation and electrical (E&I) contractors, mechanical technicians, and pipeline tie-in crews needed to connect the five producing wells to the facility.
- With drilling underway on the SS1 well pad using a Helmerich & Payne rig, rig-support trades including trucking, site prep and wellsite services should expect continued activity tied to the AUD 141 million ($97 million) gross budget through the second half of 2026.
