Obsidian Energy Completes 11-Well Peace River Program in Q1 2026

According to Drilling Contractor, Obsidian Energy rig-released 11 wells in its Peace River area during Q1 2026, including five Clearwater producers, four Clearwater injection wells, and two Bluesky producers across the Nampa, Harmon Valley South, Cadotte, and West Dawson fields. Standout results included the West Dawson 09-21 pad at an IP22 of 299 boe/d per well and the Open Creek Cardium pad averaging an IP30 of 523 boe/d per well. One rig remains active on the Dawson 5-13 Clearwater integrated waterflood project through spring break-up.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Active rigs and a multi-pad program across Peace River mean ongoing demand for completion, production, and waterflood services in the Nampa, Cadotte, and West Dawson areas.
  • Three additional Belly River wells on the Open Creek 06-04 pad were expected on production in mid-April, pointing to near-term follow-on work for local field crews.
  • The continued waterflood focus at Dawson 5-13 signals longer-cycle infrastructure work beyond initial drilling, which can support steadier subcontractor scheduling through break-up and into Q2.
