Centrium Energy Solutions Opens Permian and Williston Basin Chemical Warehouses to Cut Lead Times

According to Permian Basin Oil and Gas Magazine, Centrium Energy Solutions expanded its U.S. chemical distribution network in February with new strategic warehousing hubs in the Permian and Williston basins, bringing the total warehouse count within the Cathedral Holdings network to eight.

Market Impact

The expansion addresses a persistent logistical problem across both basins: most chemical supply still moves via long-distance trucking, often from hundreds of miles away, tying up capital and slowing field response times. Centrium’s new facilities are permitted for corrosive and flammable products, which is especially significant in the Williston Basin where hazardous material storage has historically been limited.

Both new locations are designed to receive full truckloads and redistribute in smaller quantities, allowing customers to purchase as few as two to three totes at full truckload pricing. Deliveries from the new hubs are promised within 48 hours, compared to the multi-week lead times common with long-haul or imported chemical shipments.

“The ability to purchase smaller quantities without sacrificing full truckload economics has become one of the oilfield’s most urgent operational needs,” said Sean Moore, Account Manager and Operations Lead for Centrium Energy Solutions. “By opening additional stocking sites inside the basins, we are enabling operators and service companies to access the chemistry they need quickly, cost effectively and without tying up capital in excess inventory.”

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Less capital tied up in inventory. Buying two to three totes at a time instead of committing to full truckload volumes frees up working capital, a real advantage for Tier 2 and Tier 3 service companies operating on tight margins.
  • Faster field response. Sub-48-hour delivery from within-basin stock means chemical availability no longer has to be a bottleneck for job scheduling or chemistry optimization programs.
  • Broader chemical access in the Williston. Hazmat-permitted storage in the basin opens up production chemistries that were previously difficult to source regionally, expanding the scope of services smaller providers can offer.
  • Competitive pressure on logistics operations. Subcontractors that currently manage their own chemical hauling or warehousing should evaluate whether regional hubs like Centrium’s change the economics of that model, particularly for smaller, recurring chemical orders.
