Cenovus Awards Aker Solutions Five-Year Contract for White Rose Platform and SeaRose FPSO
According to World Oil, Aker Solutions has been awarded a five-year engineering and maintenance services agreement by Cenovus Energy to support operations at the White Rose field offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
Market Impact
The contract covers engineering, maintenance, and operational support for both the West White Rose platform and the SeaRose floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel. The work will be managed out of Aker Solutions’ St. John’s office, with approximately 120 onshore and offshore personnel supporting the contract. The agreement will be recorded as second-quarter 2026 order intake within Aker Solutions’ Life Cycle business segment.
Aker Solutions has a long history with the White Rose development, having provided offshore engineering services since 2005. That work has included the tow-out and installation of the West White Rose concrete gravity structure, onshore commissioning, offshore hookup activities, and EPCM services for the SeaRose FPSO, including engineering, procurement, and work preparation for the vessel’s life extension drydock campaign completed in 2024. The West White Rose platform is expected to begin production later this year.
“We will apply our multidisciplinary Project Execution Model to deliver safe, predictable and cost-efficient operations for our customers,” said Paal Eikeseth, executive vice president and head of Aker Solutions’ Life Cycle business. Eikeseth also noted that Aker Solutions has delivered multidisciplinary services in the East Coast region for more than 30 years.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- A five-year contract of this scope, supporting both a new platform and an FPSO, signals a sustained demand for marine, mechanical, inspection, and maintenance trades in Atlantic Canada through at least the early 2030s.
- With the West White Rose platform targeting first production later this year, subcontractors offering commissioning support, hookup services, and offshore maintenance crews should expect near-term mobilization opportunities tied to startup activities.
- The contract is managed from St. John’s, meaning local and regional service providers in Newfoundland and Labrador are well-positioned to pursue subcontract and vendor opportunities under Aker Solutions’ project structure.
- The 2024 completion of the SeaRose drydock campaign shows Cenovus and Aker Solutions are actively investing in life extension work, a signal that inspection, repair, and maintenance contracts on aging offshore assets in the region remain active.
