Assala Energy Strikes Oil in Gabon, Opening Door for Service Contractors

According to Drilling Contractor, Assala Energy reported a hydrocarbon discovery at its Magoga-A exploration well in Gabon’s Mutamba Iroru License II, with a sidetrack extending into the Atora License. Preliminary data shows 8 meters of hydrocarbons within the Gamba Sandstone formation. The company plans additional work to evaluate reservoir properties, fluid characteristics, and volumetric potential before determining next steps, including possible appraisal drilling.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Drilling contractors could see opportunities if Assala moves forward with appraisal wells to further delineate the discovery
  • Wireline and logging services will likely be needed for reservoir evaluation and formation testing during the assessment phase
  • Mud logging and geological services may benefit from extended drilling programs as the company evaluates the broader license areas
