Compliance

A documented system requiring subcontractors to isolate and de-energise equipment before maintenance or service work begins. It defines lockout/tagout procedures, worker responsibilities, and verification steps. Prime contractors often audit subcontractor programs before awarding site access.

Lead Service Line Replacement

Compliance

A regulated programme to remove and replace lead water pipes connecting mains to buildings. Subcontractors are often mobilised under municipal contracts to perform excavation, pipe removal, and restoration work. Compliance with environmental and safety regulations is mandatory throughout.

Arbitration

Compliance

A private dispute resolution process where a neutral third party settles contract disagreements outside of court. Subcontractors often encounter arbitration clauses in master service agreements. It can limit your right to sue a prime contractor or operator directly.

Toolbox Talk

Compliance

A short, informal safety meeting held on-site before work begins. Subcontractors are often required to lead or attend these as part of the prime contractor's safety programme. Attendance records may be audited during safety compliance reviews.

Absolute Liability

Compliance

Legal responsibility for damages or injuries regardless of fault or negligence. Subcontractors can be held liable even if they followed all safety protocols. Common in environmental incidents and hazardous operations on job sites.

Written Work Plan

Compliance

A document submitted by a subcontractor outlining how a specific scope of work will be executed safely and efficiently. It typically covers methods, equipment, personnel, and hazard controls. Clients often require it before mobilisation or permit approval.
