Zefiro Wins Multi-Year Great Lakes Well-Plugging Contract Through 2029
Zefiro has been awarded a state-funded well-plugging contract in the Great Lakes region, with work running from November 2026 through June 2029, Drilling Contractor reports.
Market Impact
The contract will be executed through Zefiro’s operating subsidiary Plants & Goodwin, a well services company with more than 50 years of operating history. Zefiro says the award builds on a growing portfolio of state-funded well remediation work across its northeastern US operating territory, an area that has expanded through recent equipment acquisitions and a partnership with the Well Done Foundation.
This is not Zefiro’s first state contract in the region. In June 2025, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources awarded the company a three-year contract to remediate approximately 200 high-priority marginal wells. Zefiro specializes in methane abatement and plugging orphaned and end-of-life oil and gas wells, and it now operates across 13 US states.

- Equipment and workforce providers serving marginal and orphaned well decommissioning, including crews for wellhead cutting, cementing, and site restoration, should track upcoming state RFPs in Ohio and other Great Lakes states, where Zefiro’s expansion suggests continued multi-year contract cycles through at least 2029.
