Transco Gillis West, Wharton West Add 285,000 Dth/d in Texas

Two Transco expansions in Texas, Gillis West and Wharton West, are now in service and add a combined 285,000 dekatherms per day of firm transportation capacity, Shale Magazine reports in an ENMG analysis of Williamsโ€™ third-quarter materials. Gillis West provides 115,000 Dth/d from Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, to three Harris County delivery points. Wharton West provides 170,000 Dth/d to Luminant for the planned gas conversion of the 650-megawatt Coleto Creek coal plant near Goliad.

Williamsโ€™ SEC filing puts Gillis West in service in late October 2026. No exact Wharton West date is given. In-service status is not daily flow, and the source gives no utilization data.

The source ties this capacity to Houston-area delivery and a power-plant conversion. It does not mention LNG, name the next in-line projects, or list FERC docket numbers. It only references FERC project notices.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Coleto Creek is the open work. Luminantโ€™s parent company, Vistra, expects coal retirement by the end of 2026, and the gas repowering is still described as intended, not complete. Mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation (E&I) and commissioning contractors should pre-qualify with Vistra now. The source names no contractors or packages.
  • Pipeline-side scope is built. That scope covered three Harris County meter stations, Station 35 and Compressor Station 30 modifications, and new interconnects in Goliad and Live Oak counties. Look for follow-on work only through new FERC filings. Search FERC eLibrary for the Gillis West and Wharton West project notices to get the dockets, then watch Transco filings for new expansions.
  • Flow is unproven. Ask customers about nominations and utilization before staffing up for Houston-area connections.
