Talos Energy advances Gulf of Mexico drilling with new well completions and appraisal plans

According to Drilling Contractor, Talos Energy drilled the CPN well in Q1 2026 as part of its US Gulf of Mexico development activity, with first production expected in the second half of 2026. The company also plans to drill an appraisal well at its Daenerys exploration prospect in Q2 2026 after the discovery well encountered oil pay in multiple sub-salt Miocene sands at 33,228 feet total vertical depth.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Completion services could see opportunities as the CPN well moves toward production in H2 2026, including workover services for the Genovesa well returning to production in Q3
  • Drilling contractors and support services may benefit from the planned Daenerys appraisal well in Q2 2026, particularly those with deepwater capabilities given the 33,000+ foot depths
  • Marine and logistics providers should track Talos’s eight new development and exploration prospects from the December 2025 lease sale, which could generate sustained Gulf of Mexico activity
