Indonesia Energy Moves Toward Drilling at Sumatra's Kruh Block After Flood Delays

Indonesia Energy has completed drilling pads and taken delivery of long-lead items for two wells at its Kruh Block in Sumatra, with spud on the first well expected within 60 days.

According to Drilling Contractor, Indonesia Energy has completed pre-drilling preparations for two onshore wells, K-29 and WK-5, at its Kruh Block in Sumatra. Drilling pads are built, and long-lead items including drill pipe, drill bits, and wellheads have been delivered. PT Bina Mitra Artha is the appointed drilling contractor, with its BMA #9 rig mobilizing to the K-29 location following a flood-related road delay that forced the company to secure permits for an alternate route. First spud is expected within 60 days, with the two wells to be drilled back-to-back.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Rig mobilization and wellsite prep are underway, signaling near-term demand for local oilfield trucking, road prep, and wellsite construction services in the Sumatra region.
  • The flood-related mobilization disruption is a reminder that logistics contingency planning, including alternate route permits and equipment staging, is a competitive differentiator for field service providers working in remote or weather-exposed areas.
  • Back-to-back well programs typically compress timelines and increase crew and equipment utilization demands, favoring subcontractors who can commit to extended availability.
