Halliburton Lands Long-Term GranMorgu Drilling Deal Offshore Suriname
Halliburton has secured an integrated drilling and completions contract for the GranMorgu deepwater development offshore Suriname, a long-term project operated by TotalEnergies, World Oil reports.
Market Impact
Under the deal, Halliburton will run a digital execution model that combines planning, engineering and field operations, using real-time data and remote operations capabilities to place wells more accurately and cut well construction costs. Franco Delano, Halliburtonโs vice president for the Caribbean, said the award โreflects the value of integrated execution, collaboration and digital technology in complex deepwater developmentsโ and that the project โdemonstrates how aligned teams and advanced well construction capabilities support safe, efficient delivery and maximize asset value for our customers.โ
The contract also carries infrastructure investment beyond the wellsite. Halliburton, working with local suppliers, upgraded its liquid mud and cement plant in Suriname and supported construction of the countryโs first drilling and completions workshop with advanced maintenance and repair capabilities. Halliburton said the GranMorgu project also marks the first global alliance among Halliburton, TotalEnergies and Noble for offshore well construction, a structure that ties the three companies together for well delivery on a long-term basis rather than a single-well or short-term basis.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- Local hiring and supplier participation are named priorities for Halliburton throughout the project, opening a pathway for Suriname-based field service firms in mud logging, cementing, and maintenance support tied to the new liquid mud/cement plant upgrade and drilling workshop.
- The new drilling and completions workshop in Suriname, described as the countryโs first with advanced maintenance and repair capabilities, signals ongoing demand for mechanical, equipment repair, and workshop support trades tied to deepwater rig servicing.
- The Halliburton-TotalEnergies-Noble alliance structure for offshore well construction suggests multi-well, multi-year subcontracting packages rather than one-off bids, giving drilling and completions subs a longer planning horizon for Suriname deepwater work.
- U.S. and Gulf Coast-based E&I, cementing, and mud engineering firms with international deepwater experience should track Halliburtonโs Caribbean division for potential crew rotation, equipment supply, or specialist support roles feeding into the GranMorgu build-out.
