Georgina Energy Pays Deposit to Mobilize Ensign 970 Rig for Western Australia Helium Well

According to Drilling Contractor, Georgina Energy has paid a deposit to Ensign Australia to mobilize the Ensign 970 rig for drilling at the Hussar prospect in exploration permit EP513, onshore Western Australia. The well targets helium, hydrogen, and natural gas in the Townsend Formation and fractured Neoproterozoic basement, with independent consultants estimating net attributable prospective resources of 155 Bcf of helium, 173 Bcf of hydrogen, and 1.73 Tcf of recoverable natural gas. Drilling is planned over 50 days with spud on track for Q3 2026. Technical consultant Aztech Well Construction is coordinating casing, wellhead, logging, cementing, and drilling fluid services.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Specialty service contracts are already in motion, with suppliers being engaged for electric logging, casing running, cementing, drilling fluid engineering, mudlogging, and gas sampling at the Hussar wellsite.
  • Civil and site prep work is underway now, including access road repairs along the Gunbarrel Highway and up to two water bore drillings expected by end of July 2026, creating near-term opportunities ahead of rig arrival.
  • Canadian drilling firms with international reach, particularly those familiar with Ensign’s operations, should note this project as a live opportunity in Western Australia’s emerging helium and hydrogen exploration sector.
