According to Drilling Contractor, Borr Drilling has suspended operations on three of its four jackups in the Persian Gulf following recent regional hostilities. The rigs in Qatar and UAE were downmanned last week as a precautionary measure, while one rig suffered an incident on a customer platform that led to evacuation of all personnel.

The Norway-based contractor confirmed all employees are safe and accounted for. Operations will remain on standby until conditions allow safe resumption, though all four Gulf rigs remain under contract and insured.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Rig maintenance opportunities could emerge as suspended jackups require upkeep during standby periods, benefiting mechanical, electrical, and inspection services
  • Regional workforce redeployment may create openings in other markets as drilling crews and support staff seek alternative assignments
  • Supply chain disruptions in the Gulf could shift demand to other regions, potentially boosting activity in West Texas, Gulf of Mexico, or Canadian markets
