Astec's Kolberg 9225 Produces Two Sand Grades Simultaneously from One Plant

Astec Industries' Kolberg 9225 Dual Sand Plant uses hydrocyclone technology to produce two grades of sand at once, with moisture levels as low as 8% and a compact footprint designed for fast setup.

According to Pit & Quarry, Astec Industries has introduced the Kolberg 9225 Dual Sand Plant, a washing and classification system capable of producing two grades of sand simultaneously from a single unit. The plant uses hydrocyclone technology to deliver dewatered sand at moisture levels as low as 8%. It is built to BS EN 1009 safety standards, a European specification covering walkways, access points, and equipment guarding that aligns closely with OSHA 1926 fall protection and general machine guarding requirements familiar to US crews.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Sand and aggregate producers running portable or modular wash plants can potentially replace two single-grade setups with one unit, cutting equipment costs and site footprint.
  • The 8% moisture output means faster load-out and less weight variation per truck, which matters when billing by the ton or meeting spec on tight construction timelines.
  • Improved walkways and serviceability features reduce daily maintenance time and help crews stay OSHA-compliant on access and fall protection without added modifications.
