Texas Gateway Pipeline Enters Federal Fast Track as Gulf Coast Infrastructure Buildout Continues

Gulf South Pipeline Company, a subsidiary of Boardwalk Pipelines, has secured FAST-41 covered project status for its Texas Gateway Project, according to Boardwalk and the federal Permitting Dashboard. The designation puts the roughly 155-mile natural gas pipeline on a coordinated federal environmental review timeline overseen by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the lead agency for the project.

The project consists of new 36-inch and 42-inch diameter pipe running from Carthage, Texas to Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, designed to move up to 1.8 Bcf/d of natural gas. Scope includes a new compressor station in San Jacinto County, Texas, plus expansions at Gulf Southโ€™s existing Carthage Compressor Station in Panola County and Magasco Compressor Station in Sabine County. Gulf South filed its formal application with FERC on June 26, 2026 under docket CP26-547, and the project is currently listed as โ€œapplication submitted, under review.โ€

Boardwalk says the pipeline is intended to connect production areas to high-demand markets across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana, supporting industrial and utility customers along the Gulf Coast. Stakeholder and landowner engagement began in the third quarter of 2025, and Gulf South has hosted open houses for affected landowners along the route, including in San Augustine, Texas.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • 155 miles of large-diameter pipe (36-inch and 42-inch) plus three compressor station builds represent a multi-year bid opportunity for East Texas and Southwest Louisiana pipeline welding, civil, and E&I crews once FERC review clears.
  • FAST-41 status typically compresses the federal permitting timeline, so contractors should track the docket (CP26-547) now to position for mobilization rather than waiting for a construction notice-to-proceed announcement.
  • Compressor station work at Carthage and Magasco (brownfield expansions) plus a new greenfield station in San Jacinto County gives mechanical and electrical subs three separate scopes to bid across two states.
