Sundt Construction Acquires Industrial Power Solutions, Doubling Electrical Workforce
According to AZ Big Media, Tempe-based Sundt Construction has acquired Industrial Power Solutions (IPS), a full-service industrial electrical contractor based in Phoenix, in a deal that more than doubles the size of Sundt’s skilled electrical workforce.
IPS will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Sundt, with some shared services and personnel. The firm has operated in the Phoenix metro region for nearly two decades, specializing in water and wastewater treatment facilities — project types with large and complex electrical scopes of work.
“The technical expertise of the IPS team matched with Sundt’s long history as a self-perform contractor creates an opportunity for our organizations to expand our capabilities and better serve our clients,” said Sundt President and CEO Cade Rowley. “IPS’s commitment to safety, innovation and quality align with our own company values.”
IPS founder Lucas Bruxvoort and his leadership team will remain with the company. The firm was founded in 2008 and its notable projects include the Deer Valley, Union Hills, and 24th Street water treatment plants — a portfolio that pairs directly with Sundt’s active water and wastewater work in the region.
Sundt, ranked No. 46 on ENR’s Top 400 contractors list, was recently recognized as the safest construction company in the nation by the Associated General Contractors of America for the third time.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- Electrical subcontracting opportunity shifts in Phoenix. Sundt bringing IPS in-house means some electrical scopes that might have gone to third-party electrical subs on Sundt jobs will now be self-performed. Electrical contractors in the Southwest should watch Sundt’s bid pipeline for scope changes.
- Water/wastewater concentration is deliberate. Both companies’ track records are in treatment plants — a sector with steady public funding and growing demand. Field service companies with water infrastructure expertise in Arizona and neighbouring states may see increased indirect competition from the combined entity.
- Employee-ownership expands coverage. IPS’s 200-plus employees gain access to Sundt’s ESOP, which can aid retention in a tight electrical labour market and reduce churn on long-duration industrial projects.
