According to Oil & Gas 360, Shell and Kazakhstan signed an exploration agreement for the Zhanaturmys block in western Kazakhstan. The deal, signed by Kazakhstan’s Deputy Energy Minister Yerlan Akbarov and Shell’s Senior Vice President Suzanne Coogan, covers seismic exploration and data collection activities in the western region of the country.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Seismic and data collection work could create demand for specialized service companies with international capabilities or partnerships in Central Asia
  • Western Kazakhstan exploration may favor contractors already working in the region or those willing to mobilize equipment and crews internationally
  • Early-stage exploration typically requires smaller, specialized crews before any major field development spending materializes
