Sentinel Midstream Breaks Ground on Deepwater VLCC Export Terminal off Freeport, Texas
According to Permian Basin Oil and Gas Magazine, Dallas-based Sentinel Midstream has begun construction on Texas GulfLink, a deepwater crude oil export terminal located approximately 30 miles off the coast of Freeport, Texas. The terminal is designed to fully load very large crude carriers (VLCCs) and connect global markets to North American crude. The U.S. Department of Transportation approved the operating license in February. Sentinel will lead development, construction, commercial operations, and long-term management of the project.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- Marine and offshore civil contractors in the Gulf Coast region should watch for subcontracting opportunities as active construction ramps up on a major deepwater infrastructure project.
- Pipeline, mechanical, and marine installation specialists familiar with offshore terminal work are well-positioned, given the scale and complexity of a VLCC-capable loading system.
- The project carries a federal operating license from the Department of Transportation, which typically signals a stable regulatory environment and a longer construction timeline with sustained field labor demand.
