SEG Solar's Third Texas Facility to Push US Manufacturing Capacity to 10.6 GW

According to Solar Power World, SEG Solar has announced plans for a third solar panel assembly facility in Texas, a 4.6-GW plant that will bring the company’s total US module manufacturing capacity to 10.6 GW per year. The new facility, reported to be adjacent to SEG’s second factory in Tomball, will span 1.15 million square feet and is expected to complete construction in March 2027, with commercial production beginning in May 2027. The plant will produce heterojunction technology (HJT) modules, adding to domestic n-type panel supply as TOPCon patent disputes continue to slow competing production.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Solar EPC subcontractors and panel installers in Texas and across the US may see improved domestic module availability as SEG’s combined capacity comes online through 2027, potentially easing supply chain pressure on project timelines.
  • HJT module production at scale could open new procurement options for subcontractors working on utility and commercial projects where n-type panel specs are required.
  • The Tomball-area build will create construction and fit-out work in the Houston metro, a near-term opportunity for local commercial construction subcontractors.
