RAM Sets September Dates for Annual Blasting Safety Course

Blasting crews now have a firm date to plan around, Canadian Mining Journal reports. RAM Inc., an explosives engineering firm specializing in blast safety, has confirmed its annual Blasting and Explosives Safety Training (BEST) course will run Sept. 15 to 17 at the Crazy Horse Memorial in South Dakota. The course covers explosive regulations, hazard recognition, and accident prevention, with instructors demonstrating safe handling of blasting systems and the risks tied to deteriorating explosives. RAM president and BEST instructor Robert McClure said the course is built to sharpen hazard recognition so crews โ€œcan go home safely every day.โ€ Registration is open now, and those who sign up before July 31, 2026 get a discount.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Blasting and drill-and-blast crews on mining and heavy-civil projects have a hard training window (Sept. 15-17) to build into fall project schedules and crew rotations.
  • Companies registering before July 31, 2026 lock in a discounted rate, making this a near-term budgeting decision for firms planning explosives-handling certifications this year.
  • Contractors bidding blasting-heavy scopes can use current, dated BEST certification as a differentiator when responding to mine development or infrastructure RFPs that require documented explosive-safety training.
