Mammoet Returns to Bruce Power for Unit 4 Steam Generator Exchange
Heavy-lift specialist Mammoet is returning to Bruce Powerโs Major Component Replacement (MCR) project in Ontario, Equipment Journal reports, this time to handle steam generator work at Unit 4 of the Bruce A station. The MCR project, underway since 2020, covers replacement of major components across six reactor units at Bruce A and B, stations that together supply more than 30% of Ontarioโs power and produce medical isotopes used in cancer treatment. Mammoet previously supported steam generator exchanges at Unit 3 in 2024 and will now perform similar work at Unit 4, relocating two steam drums and exchanging eight steam generators over an expected six-month timeline. The scope, contracted through the Steam Generator Replacement Team (SGRT), a joint venture of Aecon, Framatome, and Unite Engineers and Constructors, will again rely on Mammoetโs 1,600-tonne PTC-35 ring crane, jack-and-slide equipment, and Self-Propelled Modular Transporters to move retired steam generators into long-term storage.
