Expro Wins Geothermal Well Testing Contract for Vulcan Energy's Germany Project

Expro will provide surface well testing services for the first Schleidberg well under Vulcan Energy's Lionheart Project in Germany, supporting reservoir characterization and lithium extraction efforts.

FieldNews Staff |

According to Drilling Contractor, Expro has been awarded a well testing contract for the first Schleidberg well as part of Vulcan Energy’s Lionheart Project in Germany. Expro’s scope includes its GeoFlow Surface Well Testing package, helping VERCANA and Vulcan Energy characterize the reservoir, assess fluid properties, and advance geothermal energy and lithium extraction plans.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Geothermal projects increasingly require the same well testing, fluid handling, and surface equipment services used in oil and gas, opening doors for field service companies with transferable skills.
  • Lithium extraction from geothermal brines is a growing niche, and subcontractors with chemical handling, flowback, or water management experience could find new work as projects like Lionheart expand.
  • While this project is in Germany, similar geothermal development is accelerating in the western US, particularly in Nevada, Utah, and California, where domestic subcontractors should watch for comparable opportunities.
