Emerson Deploys Unified SCADA Platform Across Holy Cross Energy's Colorado Renewable Sites
According to Canadian Mining Journal, Emerson has deployed its “Ovation Green” SCADA software to help Holy Cross Energy manage four solar, wind, and battery storage plants across western Colorado. The not-for-profit rural electric cooperative serves roughly 45,000 members, including the Vail and Aspen resorts. The platform provides granular real-time control and supports multi-day scheduling for hourly plant operations. “This unified operational view helps us optimize resources, meet member needs, monitor contractual obligations and performance requirements, and support real-time market participation and forecasting,” said Phil Armstrong, Holy Cross Energy’s power supply manager.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- Instrumentation and controls subs working with rural cooperatives and renewable developers should expect growing demand for SCADA integration work as distributed generation fleets expand across multiple sites.
- Multi-site deployments like this one require coordination across solar, wind, and battery storage systems, meaning subs with cross-technology commissioning experience have an edge.
- Emerson’s Ovation platform will be on display at the Ovation Users’ Group conference in Pittsburgh from July 26 to 30, offering a direct look at where this technology is heading.
