DPR to Prefab Steel, Facades and MEP on $230M Kaiser Colorado Build

DPR Construction will move portions of Kaiser Permanenteโ€™s $230 million Westminster Medical Offices in Colorado off the jobsite, using prefabricated and modular methods on structural steel, exterior facades, interior spaces and MEP systems, Construction Dive reports. Scott Miller, DPRโ€™s Mountain States leader, told the publication the approach supports schedule certainty and reduces site complexity, which he called especially valuable in healthcare, where complex systems demand precise coordination and minimal disruption.

The 132,000-square-foot, three-story facility will sit directly south of the existing Westminster Medical Offices on Huron Street. It will house an outpatient surgery center, urgent care, primary and specialty care, OB-GYN, a pharmacy, lab services, imaging and pediatrics. DPR announced the groundbreaking Oct. 9, and the building is scheduled to open in 2028.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • No GC selection is open. DPR is already the contractor and has broken ground. The source does not say which subcontract packages are awarded or still open, so steel, facade, interior and MEP firms should confirm directly with DPR whether their scope is already slotted for off-site fabrication.
  • Expect earlier design lock and fabrication slots (our inference). Prefabricating MEP systems and steel means coordination has to be settled before pieces are built. Check whether your subcontract lets you bill for off-site fabricated or stored work, since milestones may shift away from on-site installation.
  • On-site crews may be smaller and compressed (our inference). DPR says the goal is less site complexity and more schedule certainty, with the building opening in 2028. Plan delivery sequencing and lead times around that target.
