AECOM Lands Top Spot on $270M Defence Construction Canada A&E Source List
According to the Daily Commercial News, AECOM has been awarded the top position on Defense Construction Canada’s (DCC) National Architecture and Engineering Source List, a multi-year program with a potential value of up to $270 million supporting defense infrastructure delivery across Canada.
Market Impact
The contract is structured as a three-year agreement with two additional one-year extension options, making it a potential five-year pipeline of federal work. According to the release cited by the Daily Commercial News, this is the largest source list ever issued by DCC by total maximum estimated value, described as “a major investment in Canada’s defense infrastructure.”
Project types under the program span a wide range of facility categories, including hangars, aircraft maintenance buildings, vehicle maintenance bays, high-security office complexes, accommodations, mess facilities (dining halls), recreational amenities, and training facilities. AECOM will also provide strategic planning, long-term recapitalization planning, and asset portfolio management services.
“Across Canada, our local teams take deep pride in supporting the people and infrastructure that safeguard the nation,” said Richard Barrett, CEO of AECOM’s Canada region, adding that the work will draw on architecture and engineering expertise alongside energy modeling and asset management capabilities.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- A $270 million, multi-year federal program generates significant downstream subcontract demand. Mechanical, electrical, civil, and specialty trades firms should monitor DCC procurement channels and AECOM’s regional offices for subcontracting opportunities.
- The facility types listed, including hangars, vehicle bays, and high-security buildings, require specialized field capabilities. Subcontractors with defense facility experience or security clearances are better positioned to compete.
- The five-year potential duration provides planning visibility. Field service companies in markets near Canadian Forces bases should consider engaging AECOM’s local teams early rather than waiting for formal solicitations.
- Strategic planning and recapitalization services are part of the scope, meaning the work extends beyond single projects. Subcontractors that can support ongoing asset management and maintenance programs may find repeat engagement opportunities throughout the contract term.
