Public Comment Period Opens for Trigon Pacific LPG Export Terminal at Prince Rupert

According to a Canadian Press report via BOE Report, Canada’s Impact Assessment Agency has opened a public comment period on a proposed liquefied petroleum gas facility at the Port of Prince Rupert, B.C. Comments on the proposal by Trigon Pacific Terminals must be submitted by July 24. The project would include construction of up to 20 rail-loading racks, storage tanks holding up to 158,000 cubic metres of LPG, and marine loading infrastructure for export shipments. Trigon is partially owned by two northwestern B.C. First Nations, the Lax Kw’alaams Band and the Metlakatla First Nation.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • The July 24 comment deadline marks an early permitting milestone. Field contractors with marine, terminal, or rail construction experience should monitor the assessment process closely, as procurement typically follows regulatory approvals.
  • The scale of the project, including up to 20 rail-loading racks and large-volume tank construction, points to significant civil, mechanical, and marine subcontracting opportunities on B.C.’s north coast.
  • First Nations co-ownership of the project may shape procurement preferences, so contractors familiar with Indigenous partnership requirements in B.C. will be better positioned when bidding opens.
