Oklahoma Wildfire Conditions Remain Dangerous as Multiple Large Fires Burn

Western Oklahoma stays under Red Flag Alert with several fires exceeding 600 acres, as three firefighters recover from injuries sustained battling a Blaine County blaze.

FieldNews Staff |

According to Oklahoma Energy Today, western Oklahoma remains under a Red Flag Alert with multiple large wildfires burning across the state, including the Cedar Canyon Fire in Blaine County at 620 acres and the Iron Post Fire in Cherokee County at 1,304 acres. Three firefighters are recovering from injuries, including one who suffered burns and another who had a heart attack and was airlifted to Oklahoma City. Oklahoma Forestry Services warned that “intensive drying” of fuels will continue, with little relief expected in western Oklahoma next week.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Field crews working in western and central Oklahoma should monitor Red Flag conditions daily. Hot, dry conditions with 30 mph winds can change fire behavior quickly, and work sites in grass or brush terrain are at risk.
  • Evacuation and access disruptions are real. Multiple county fire agencies are engaged, meaning roads and job sites in Blaine, Kingfisher, Major, and Logan Counties could face restricted access.
  • Review your fire emergency response plan now. Ensure crews have communication protocols, know evacuation routes, and understand when to halt work under extreme fire weather conditions.
