Nemetschek Acquires HCSS, Targeting Heavy Civil and Infrastructure Growth

According to Construction Dive, Nemetschek Group has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Heavy Construction Systems Specialists (HCSS) from private equity firm Thoma Bravo. Sugar Land, Texas-based HCSS generated approximately $215 million in revenue in 2025 and supports more than 4,000 companies in the heavy civil and infrastructure sectors. Munich-based Nemetschek, owner of Bluebeam and Nevaris, will integrate HCSS into its Build & Construct segment, with Thoma Bravo retaining roughly 28% as a minority shareholder.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Your estimating and project management tools are changing hands. HCSS flagship products HeavyBid and HeavyJob are widely used by heavy civil subcontractors to bid and manage jobs. Ownership changes can bring new pricing, support structures, or product direction.
  • Consolidation is accelerating. This deal is part of a broader contech M&A wave that picked up speed in late 2025. Fewer independent vendors means subcontractors have less leverage and fewer alternatives when negotiating software contracts.
  • Infrastructure spending is driving the action. Nemetschek specifically cited the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act as a growth driver. If software companies are positioning hard for infrastructure work, subcontractors in that space should expect both more competition and more capable tools in the coming years.
