Meta Signs PPA for 172-MW Louisiana Solar Project With Lightsource bp
Meta has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Lightsource bp for the 172-MW Mowata Solar project in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, Solar Power World reports. The deal marks the latest solar PPA between Meta and Lightsource bp, following a similar 2022 agreement for the 134-MW Arche Solar project in Ohio. According to the report, Lightsource bp is investing $237 million in the project, with construction set to begin later this year. Meta’s Amanda Yang said the deal adds generation to the local grid and supports economic growth in the parish, while Lightsource bp COO Emilie Wangerman said the project reinforces the company’s ability to scale renewable energy alongside growing tech-sector power demand. The project is expected to generate 250 to 350 construction jobs. Lightsource bp has also made a $400,000 contribution to the Acadia Parish Industrial Development Board and developed a Land Management and Biodiversity Plan that includes restoring native Cajun Prairie habitat on site.
