Gilbane-Turner JV Delivers $2.1B Highmark Stadium After Nearly 5 Million Labor Hours
According to Construction Dive, a Gilbane-Turner joint venture has delivered the completed Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, to the Buffalo Bills. The $2.1 billion, 1.6 million-square-foot venue seats 60,108 fans and is the largest construction project in Western New York history. Nearly 6,000 craft workers logged approximately 5 million labor hours over the three-year build.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- At roughly 5 million labor hours across a three-year schedule, this project sets a real benchmark for workforce planning and trade sequencing on large-scale venue builds.
- The project paid over $490 million to minority- and women-owned business (MWBE) participants, with more than $250 million going to regional Western New York firms, showing that community benefits agreements carry enforceable financial weight on publicly supported megaprojects.
- With a similar $2.1 billion NFL stadium project underway in Nashville, subcontractors experienced in large venue construction have a clear next opportunity to pursue.
