According to International Mining, Ghanaian contract mining firm Engineers & Planners Co Ltd (E&P) is investing approximately $1.2 billion to support ongoing operations at Gold Fields’ Tarkwa and Damang gold mines in Ghana. The company recently deployed 30 Caterpillar 785D mining trucks to Tarkwa, building on a $650 million commitment made in 2018. E&P is also expanding into mine ownership after acquiring the Black Volta and Sankofa gold projects in late 2025.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • Heavy equipment suppliers, tire vendors, and haul truck maintenance contractors could see demand as 30 new Cat 785D trucks enter service and the broader fleet scales up.
  • E&P’s growing owner-operator footprint, including the Black Volta project with $37 million in long-lead equipment orders placed with FLSmidth, signals future subcontract opportunities in civil works, tailings, and leach pad construction.
  • US-based equipment dealers and parts distributors with Caterpillar relationships may have supply chain exposure as E&P continues its multi-year capital program.
