Enhance Energy Breaks Ground on Canada's Largest Carbon Capture Hub in Alberta
Ground has broken on what’s billed as Canada’s largest carbon capture project, a Canadian Press report via BOE Report shows, with Enhance Energy Inc.’s Origins hub in Clive, Alberta targeting January 2027 operations (pending confirmation from source).

The Origins carbon capture and storage hub, located about 140 kilometres south of Edmonton, will initially have capacity to permanently store up to 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, according to the report. Enhance Energy already runs Alberta’s largest carbon capture site in Clive, which has permanently stored more than nine million tonnes of CO2 since 2020.
Origins will initially capture emissions from the Northwest Redwater Sturgeon Refinery and the Nutrien Redwater fertilizer facility in Alberta’s industrial heartland, with the company saying it could eventually support a broader range of sectors including oil and gas and power generation. The project connects to the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line, a pipeline system running from the Edmonton region to Clive, of which Enhance Energy is a founding partner. It will also tie into the company’s existing Clive facility.
Federal Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson said in a statement that the project reflects federal, provincial, and industry cooperation, calling it part of an effort to “build big things in this country again.” Alberta Energy Minister Brian Jean said the project would support “the most responsible oil and gas in the world” and create jobs in rural Alberta.
