DPR and Suffolk Technologies Back AI Hiring Platform Skillit
According to Construction Dive, Skillit, a construction tech firm that operates what it describes as the country’s largest network of vetted, for-hire tradespeople, has secured equity investments from DPR Construction’s venture arm and Suffolk Technologies, forming a partnership with both companies. The deal brings Skillit’s total funding to $13.6 million, per Crunchbase, though the specific amounts of the new investments were not disclosed. Skillit’s AI-powered platform gives contractors a searchable database of worker profiles. DPR is rolling out the platform nationally to support mission critical work, while Suffolk is piloting it through Liberty, its self-perform subsidiary.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- AI-driven hiring platforms are gaining serious backing from major GCs, meaning subcontractors may increasingly be expected to source or verify workers through these systems on shared jobsites.
- Skillit’s expansion into administrative roles like project managers, estimators, and superintendents suggests these tools are moving beyond craft labor and into broader workforce management.
- With competitors like Where Trades Go also active in the space, mid-size field employers should evaluate which platforms their GC partners are adopting before the market consolidates.
