Chevron Pursues Data Center Power Deals Across Midwest, Rockies, and Gulf Coast
According to a Reuters report via BOE Report, Chevron is pursuing additional data center power deals across the US, including the Midwest, Rockies, Gulf Coast, and potentially Utah, after signing a two-decade contract to power a Microsoft facility in West Texas. The anchor project, called Project Kilby, will deliver 2.67 gigawatts of capacity near Pecos, Texas, using seven GE Vernova turbines and additional Caterpillar units, with first power expected in 2028 and a final investment decision targeted by year-end.
What It Means for Subcontractors
- Kilby-scale gas generation projects require extensive civil, mechanical, electrical, and piping work, and similar projects across the Permian, Gulf Coast, and Rockies could open significant contract opportunities for regional field service companies.
- Chevron is still finalizing project design details, meaning subcontractors in target regions should position now with oil major procurement teams before scopes are locked.
- The Midwest and Colorado Rockies are emerging as new frontiers for this work, not just traditional energy corridors, so service companies outside West Texas should be paying attention.
