ADF Group Lines Up $27.5M in Financing for Quebec Steel Plant Upgrades

A Canadian Press report via Daily Commercial News details a financing package worth up to $27.5 million that steel structure producer ADF Group Inc. is lining up to modernize two Quebec plants. The Terrebonne-based company plans to sign a deal with Investissement Québec for a loan of up to $10 million for its Groupe LAR Inc. subsidiary’s Métabetchouan project, which includes plant improvements, construction of an adjacent extension, and new equipment purchases. ADF has also signed agreements under Quebec’s ESSOR program for $5 million in additional loans, $4 million interest-free for Métabetchouan and $1 million at a fixed 4.1% rate for a parallel modernization plan at its Terrebonne facility. The financing stacks on top of a federal strategic response fund contribution of up to $12.5 million, half non-repayable and half interest-free.

What It Means for Subcontractors

  • The Métabetchouan plant extension and equipment acquisition in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean will likely require civil, structural steel erection, and electrical subcontractors as the project moves from financing to construction phases.
  • The parallel Terrebonne modernization plan signals a second package of work, potentially covering mechanical installation, facility upgrades, and equipment integration trades in that region.
  • Fabricators, millwrights, and industrial equipment installers serving Quebec’s Saguenay and greater Montreal areas should track ADF Group’s procurement announcements as the financing agreements finalize, since plant modernization work typically opens subcontract packages within months of loan closing.
